FAQs
About Emma
Who is Emma Sadler?
Emma Sadler is a London-based career coach and the founder of GRIT Coaching. She is an ICF-accredited coach, trained with Barefoot Coaching, and spent 20 years in talent and people roles, including Head of Talent, at companies such as Apple, ASOS, notonthehighstreet and Carwow before she started coaching. Today she works with high-growth consumer businesses such as Fussy and Mother Root to build their teams and help drive high performance.
How is your coaching different from other career coaches?
I spent 20 years in People & Talent teams - I've read the CVs, interviewed and hired thousands of people and watched who went on to progress once they were in the door. I’ve experienced many of the challenges women speak about in coaching first-hand. So, I have the benefit of seeing and understanding a range of perspectives.
What qualifications do you have?
I'm an ICF-accredited coach, trained to Level 2 with Barefoot Coaching. I also hold BPS Level A and Level B qualifications in psychometric testing, so I can use evidence-based tools when they help.
What does GRIT stand for?
GRIT Coaching started as Girls Rising in Tech, a programme supporting women working in the tech industry I now work with women across retail, e-commerce, consumer brands and other industries, however GRIT stayed as each letter stands for an element of my Signature programmes.
Who the coaching is for
Who is GRIT Coaching for?
GRIT Coaching is aimed at mid-career to senior women (Manager to Director/VP), mostly in tech, e-commerce, retail and consumer brands. Clients usually come when they feel stuck, have lost confidence, want to step up, want to change direction, or are trying to make work and family life fit together.
Do you only coach women in tech?
No. GRIT started in tech, but given my background and network I now coach women across retail, e-commerce, consumer brands and other fast-paced industries. Clients have come from companies including Huel, Mother Root, Gail's, Accurx, Elekta, Bloomreach, Kaluza and Tractable AI.
Is GRIT Coaching only for mums?
No. I'm a working parent and I coach many mums within GRIT and specific coaching around maternity and parental leave, but most of my coaching is for any woman who wants her career to feel good again.
How do I know if I need a career coach?
A few common signs: you've been thinking about leaving for months but haven't moved, you're doing well on paper but don't feel it, you've been passed over or stopped putting yourself forward, or you're coming back from leave and don't recognise where you fit. If any of that sounds familiar, a free discovery call is a good place to start.
The programmes
Which GRIT programme is right for me?
GRIT Coaching has three programmes. Foundations acts as the building blocks for rebuilding confidence, self trust and clarity. Evolution takes this further, and supports stepping up to the next level/promotions or through a steep learning curve, such as moving into Leadership. Reinvention is for changing course - figuring out what you want, a pivot, your own thing or something completely different.
Foundations is the starting point for many clients, and we decide together on the discovery call which fits.
What is GRIT Foundations?
GRIT Foundations is coaching for when you feel stuck, have lost confidence, or work and life are out of balance. It's about getting clear on what you want and trusting yourself again, and it's the base the other two programmes build on. The programme runs for 12 weeks.
What is GRIT Evolution?
GRIT Evolution is coaching for stepping up: going for a promotion, moving into a bigger role, or growing into one you've just taken on. It usually runs for around 6 months.
What is GRIT Reinvention?
GRIT Reinvention is coaching for changing course. That might mean a new career, a different kind of role, or building something of your own instead of working for someone else. The length of this programme depends on your starting point and needs.
Do you offer maternity and parental leave coaching?
Yes. Business and Babies supports women going on, and coming back from, maternity, parental or adoption leave. GRIT Coaching is more suited for those already back at work and who have identified they need additional support. Individuals can book it directly, and employers can fund it for their staff.
Can you help me find a new job?
Yes. Hired (and Happy) is coaching for finding your next role, with the benefit of 20 years spent on the hiring side. This can include CV, LinkedIn and interview coaching for individuals where required.
Practicalities
Where are you based, and do you coach online?
GRIT Coaching is based in London. Sessions are usually online by video, but can be held in person in London on request. I work with women in London, across the UK and even internationally.
How much does career coaching with GRIT Coaching cost?
Programmes start from £1,200, depending on the programme and how long we work together. I'll give you a clear price after the discovery call, once we know what you need. It is possible to book ad-hoc sessions to work through smaller topics.
How long does coaching take?
Most clients work with me for between 3 to 6 months, and a session is typically 1 hour long, usually held every 2-3 weeks.
What happens on the free discovery call?
It's a free 30-minute call to talk through where you are, what you want to change, and whether I'm the right coach for you. There's no obligation to book anything afterwards.
Is coaching confidential?
Yes. What we talk about stays between us, in line with the ICF code of ethics. Many of my clients prefer not to be named, which is why some of the testimonials on my site are anonymous.
Can my employer pay for my coaching?
Often, yes. Some of my clients are funded by their employer, through a learning budget, parental leave support or an outplacement package. I am happy to speak to an employer directly where required to organise this.
For employers
What coaching does GRIT Coaching offer employers?
GRIT Coaching works with a range of companies, mainly in tech, e-commerce and consumer brands, in three ways: GRIT Evolution for staff stepping into bigger roles, Business and Babies for staff going on or returning from parental leave, and Outplacement coaching for staff facing redundancy.
What does your outplacement coaching include?
Outplacement coaching supports people through redundancy and into their next role. It can cover the practical side, including CV, LinkedIn and interview coaching, as well as the confidence knock that redundancy often brings.
Why use a coach with a background in People & Talent?
Alongside being an ICF Accredited coach, I spent 20 years in talent and people roles, including Head of Talent, building high performing teams at companies such as Apple, ASOS and more recently Fussy and Mother Root. Alongside my level 2 coaching training with Barefoot and practical coaching experience, I truly understand what the balance between what employers and individuals look for in coaching, and how People Teams work from the inside.
